Diamond Education
Let's talk diamonds.
What are lab-grown diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They're made of crystallized carbon with the same hardness, structure and optical properties as diamonds mined from the earth — they are simply grown in a controlled environment using processes like CVD or HPHT.
Lab-grown vs. mined
Physically and chemically, they're the same material; specialized equipment is needed to tell them apart. The main differences are origin and price: lab-grown diamonds are typically more accessible for a given size and quality.
What does CTW mean?
CTW stands for carat total weight — the combined weight of both earrings.
- 1.00 CTW — about 0.50 carat per earring
- 2.00 CTW — about 1.00 carat per earring
- 3.00 CTW — about 1.50 carats per earring
- 4.00 CTW — about 2.00 carats per earring
How shape changes the look
Carat measures weight, not size. Elongated shapes like oval and pear spread their weight over a longer outline and can appear larger face-up. Round brilliants are cut for maximum sparkle; emerald cuts use long step facets for a calm, mirror-like glow.
Why solid 14K gold?
14K gold is 58.3% pure gold, alloyed with other metals for strength. It's durable enough for daily wear and, unlike plated jewelry, the gold won't wear through over time.
